Beginner Essentials for Starting a Gym Routine

Deciding to begin a gym routine is a life-changing moment. There is a reason that so many people never stick to a fitness routine and it is often because they try to incorporate fitness too fast. Think about those times when your sleep schedule is all over the place. When you’re used to waking up at 10am, it can be extremely difficult to get back into waking up at 6am. How do you solve this? Most people will try to get to bed earlier or aim to get up at 6am only a few times a week until they can eventually do it everyday. So what do you need as a beginner who is just starting a gym routine? These tools and items are everything a beginner could ever need.

How to Stay Motivated

Sure, things like a gym bag and sneakers are super important to have when you start hitting the gym but they mean nothing if you don’t have motivation to get there! This can often be the most difficult part. If you have a hard time finding motivation, schedule your gym sessions into your weekly schedule. This is a great way to mentally prepare yourself to workout because you know exactly when to be ready. It is also a great idea to find a gym buddy who will push you on those days where you just want to lay in bed.

A gym buddy is a great way to get that extra push but if you can’t find a gym partner or you want some more help with planning out your workouts, a personal trainer is a great tool. You will not only have a planned schedule with your trainer but they will also curate a workout plan just for you and your goals. Plus, personal trainers can answer any questions that you have. What’s more supportive than that?

What to Bring With You

So, you’ve figured out how to gain gym motivation and get your workout in consistently. Now what? You need to make sure that you are prepared for these workouts which means you have an excuse to buy some new gym gear! Use this checklist to make sure you have everything you need:

  • Workout clothes
  • Appropriate sneakers (Consult your personal trainer to find out what works for you)
  • A gym bag
  • Resistance bands
  • A water bottle
  • Post-workout snack
  • Yoga mat

These gym essentials are going to assist you before, during and after your workout and save you a ton of time! Once you have all of your essentials, throw them in your gym bag and you’re ready to go.

This is an important time as you create a healthier lifestyle. It is not the time to give up or make excuses. After you have your motivation, you have gotten through the most difficult part of your fitness journey. So, grab your gym essentials, schedule your personal training sessions, and have a great workout!
